About My Clients
When Tennessee natives Heather and Michael Matheny uprooted their five children and moved to Peachtree City, Georgia a decade ago for a job, they thought that was the last family move they’d make.
After all, they had put a lot of love and money into updating and decorating their beautiful Georgia home located in a highly sought after golf course community.
But when Michael took a new position last year with Volvo, whose U.S. operations are located in Ridgeville, SC, the family packed up and headed north. Prior to this, Heather and Michael, who met in high school and married several years later, never imagined they’d be moving to South Carolina.
Sometimes the unexpected turns out to be a blessing.
The Mathenys are a warm and outgoing family, who make strangers feel welcome. They have two boys and three girls, all of whom are natural beauties who take after their mom, with an interest in fashion, bargain hunting and doing thoughtful things for friends and family. The family is very active in their church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they love to spend time together when possible. The three oldest children, who are grown, live in Idaho; eldest son, Mitchell, is in sales for a global telecommunications company; daughter Meredith and her husband, Timmy, work and go to college, as does daughter, Mallory, who attends BYU Idaho. Daughter Maggie will be a senior in high school in the fall and youngest, Max, is 14. Meredith and Mallory are the cover models for Olive Ave Boutique, an online women’s clothing shop.
The Matheny’s move to South Carolina involved selling their home in Georgia, which took a little longer than expected, so they rented locally while searching for their new home. During the process, Heather scoured the market in the picturesque Lowcountry, looking for homes in Mount Pleasant, an upscale town located across the Cooper River from Charleston close to beach access, with great restaurants, shopping and top-rated schools. What makes Mount Pleasant so special are the waterfront homes, meandering creeks, an array of home architectural styles, mossy oak trees, historic neighborhoods, salty breezes and spectacular marsh views. Lowcountry living! The Mathenys chose to live in this community as it would keep Michael’s daily commute to Volvo under an hour.
From the start, Heather left like she and her family were supposed to be in Mount Pleasant.
After many months of searching and persevering, Heather eventually found the perfect house, a gorgeous raised 5-bedroom home with double front porches (for her) and a front porch gas lantern (for Michael). The home offers privacy and a picturesque view of undisturbed wetlands. It’s located in Dunes West, a lushly landscaped gated golf course neighborhood near the Wando River that has its own crab dock, deep water access, pool and tennis courts.
From the moment she entered the home, she felt like this was the one.
“I felt like that was our home when I walked into the back yard for the first time,” Heather says. “I didn’t want to leave. I even went back and pulled into the driveway a couple more times and walked around. It is so us.”
Any home buying process can be trying at times, but Heather endured through the ups and downs of it all, eventually finding their perfect home.
“I remember years ago a Realtor telling us she believes that you don’t choose your home, the home chooses you!,” she says. “I hadn’t thought of that in a long time but finding this house brought it back to my memory. Our homes are our personal temples…I know [this home] will be that for the Matheny family for years to come.”
I can’t wait to see how many amazing memories this sweet family will make in their new home. I was humbled and honored to work with the Mathenys through the entire process, helping guide them along the way. Thank you, Heather and Michael!
